In Blooms And Bugs Shop Now: My Little Butterfly Infant Romper

Sewing Project: My little Butterfly Romper
butterfly romper

My Little Butterfly Infant Romper $20

Here's the latest addition to our etsy shop. My Little Butterfly Romper for Infants (3-6 months) - $20. I love this romper, and not just because I made it. Of course I did, but it is also made with the fabulous "Meadow Friends" collection from Debbie Strain for Moda Fabrics. I love everything about this collection, the bright and cheery colors, the beautiful floral, classy damasks, and of course, the small dots.

Whenever I sew a garment, I always think about its long term use. With that in mind I made this romper with an elasticized back, so when the little one puts on some baby fat, she can still fit in this romper. Also there are two buttonholes on each strap, so you can adjust the length as your little butterfly grows. You put it on with straps straight, or criss-crossed, so that also gives you some control over the length.

All the seams have been finished professionally, because I always strive to bring the best for your little one.

Peek a Boo: Strawberry Vanilla Dress - with toppings

Embellishing a dress
easy embellishment for strawberry vanilla dress

The strawberry Vanilla Dress I made last week. I wanted to gift it to a little girl who is celebrating her birthday this week, but I felt that it was lacking something.

There was nothing to tie the pretty print on the bottom to the red on the bodice. I took a stock of the trims and notions I had. One sew on butterfly and one red polka dot trim later...I was done.

I think it looks complete now - ready to go to the little one it was destined for.

Butterfly Dress Saga - Part 3 - Shirred version

Sewing project: Shirred butterfly dress

And you thought I was done with Butterfly dresses. ( Read how it all started in Part 1 and Part 2 ). No way!
As I promised, I finally tried my hand at shirring around the neck and despite the picture looking like angel wings etc, it actually looks pretty good on the little one.
Here's the complete dress:

Get the original tutorial here ( Sewing in no mans land). Here're the changes I made to it:
1. Took a single fold of fabric for sleeves instead of double
2. Shirred 4 rows of elastic around the neck instead of gathering it.
3. Finished the sleeves with rolled hem. ( Here's a great tutorial for rolled hems )
4. Hand Embroidered some leaves around the front neck, just wanted to give the dress some pick-me-up.

Butterfly dresss saga: Part 2

As I mentioned earlier that I'm going to take my revenge on butterfly dress ( ok, its not as ominous as it sounds in this sentence). I just love the butterfly dress style and badly wanted to make it work...there...sounds much better.
But as you can gather from the pic....I fixed my mistakes from earlier version here. And made new ones.
And I chose a pretty fabric this time...Cute kid + pretty fabric = success guaranteed :)
But I really think I made it work this time around.
Whats more is that the little one thinks its the coolest dress ever. She wanted to grab it and run away, while I was still sewing it. No kidding!
I'm still thinking of a better way to sew it though...for one thing I don't care for the bias tape bound neckline.
I think because of all the ruffling, the bias tape doesn't look that crisp at the neckline. Also I'm wondering if I can make a shirred version of this pattern. That would be cool...don't you think?
Butterfly dress saga...To be continued.
